Exploring the World of Baijiu : Masteraclass

Baijiu, the world’s most consumed spirit, remains a mystery to many outside of China. To bridge this gap, the Union of Belgium's Bartenders (UBB) recently hosted an exclusive masterclass featuring two leading experts: Ulric Nijs from the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles and Sophie Hoebeke, representative of Moutai, one of the most prestigious Baijiu brands.

An Insightful Journey into Baijiu

This immersive session provided participants with a deep dive into the rich history, complex production processes, and diverse flavor profiles of Baijiu. Ulric Nijs, a spirits expert, guided attendees through the nuances of this fascinating Chinese liquor, shedding light on its cultural significance and unique distillation techniques. His expertise, combined with his engaging storytelling, made for an educational and captivating experience.

Moutai: The Pinnacle of Baijiu Excellence

Adding to the depth of the masterclass, Sophie Hoebeke introduced attendees to Moutai, China’s most revered Baijiu brand. As a symbol of luxury and tradition, Moutai holds a prestigious status both in China and globally. Sophie provided valuable insights into what makes Moutai so exceptional, from its meticulous production in the Guizhou province to its complex and elegant flavor profile. Participants had the rare opportunity to taste and appreciate this premium Baijiu, further enhancing their understanding of its refined characteristics.

A Unique Tasting Experience

One of the highlights of the event was the guided tasting session, where attendees experienced firsthand the intricate aromas and flavors of Baijiu. From light and floral varieties to robust and savory expressions, this tasting journey demonstrated the incredible diversity of Baijiu, challenging preconceptions and expanding palates.
